As its name suggests, the Big Island is the largest and geologically the youngest of all Hawaiian Islands. Some of the most fascinating places on the Big Island are difficult to reach through land routes. Did I mention this Island has an active volcano? We took a helicopter tour to witness the lava lakes. Our adventures pilot flew almost directly over the bubbling lava giving us an opportunity to take a very close glance. We also flew over endless lava fields and glowing orange rivers of molten lava. If you plan to take this helicopter tour, try catching a tour from Hilo because the active part of the Kilauea volcano is closest to Hilo airport.
